Il brief di design
Storia da raccontare nell'infografica
There is a big neighbourhood in Edmonton called Wedgewood, full of great people who took great pride in purchasing a beautiful dream home with a very nice rustic looking Cedar Roof. The community has rules that all the roofs have to be done in Cedar or Tile, no asphalt Shingles. Now the bare minimum to install the roof in Alberta is to nail it into the plywood roof surface, the problem with that, is that Plywood is just sawdust and glue... and doesn't hold nails in very good. This is fine to get the look of cedar, but to get the reliability you need proper ventilation. You also need for the cedar to not move. When hundreds of pounds of snow rest on the roof, and press it down, then melt, the nails wiggle out of the plywood. So water and ice get in, freeze, and push the wood up causing it to crack, mold, and look ugly, WAY earlier than they should. This whole community is only 17 years old yet most of the roofs need to be done when Cedar should last 30-40 years in Alberta climate. In British Columbia, the plywood is prepared first with pine boards making a grid that allow airflow under the cedar, and also makes for a tighter stickier place for the nail to be put in. In fact, this is exactly how the manufacturers booklet says it should be done, in order for home owners to have a valid warranty. It is almost unfair that the nice home owners in wedgewood spent all this money on their homes to have a purely cosmetic cedar roof without any of the reliability. Now the cost of Cedar done properly will cost 20% MORE, because it takes 200% as much time to install, BUT.... You will also have 200% more life out of the roof. This means that if you re-do the roof when you buy the home, you won't have to do it again before you leave, in order to sell the home. So instead of paying $16,000 twice, for example. You can pay $19,000 once! Plus you will get a 50 year warranty from the shingle maker, and a 10 year workmanship guarantee from us!

The average cedar roof in Wedgewood is 125 Bundles, with approximately 50 shingles per bundle.. and two nails per shingle... thats roughly 12,500 nails going into your roof. All it takes is one good leak to cause significant damage to the interior of your home. This takes careful preparation, and installation experience to perform a good job. A pine strapped roof in Wedgewood will result in approximately 300 pieces of 8 foot strapping being applied to the roof which will make it much stronger, more leak proof, eliminate condensation under the cedar shingle. That is 2400 linear feet of wood that we need to lay down and put a nail every 18" which is another 1600 nails. That strapping takes up approximately 600 square feet which leaves 2000 square feet of ventilated space under the cedar. nailing it directly the the plywood has ZERO. This allows you to get a 50 year warranty on the product. So if the cost of the average wedge wood home is 600,000 and you have to do your roof once in the time you own it, thats about $20,000. If you do it twice for 20% less ,thats $32,000 Installing on strapping also makes the cedar hold its colour longer, look newer longer, and we provide a full page warranty card to all manufacturer specifications.

not sure exactly what to use. This is going to be put onto a flyer that we will put in peoples mailbox... probably a bit bigger than the average size of the piece of paper 8.5 x 11" -- probably going to make it longer... like say 14" long but still 8.5" wide.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwYALie0fGKmMU5XME05RlNHU1k&authuser=0 source files... logos.... pictures of a roof we have done to these specifications mentioned. http://www.gocanvas.com/content/blog/post/8-great-construction-infographics Don't like #6 or #7 I like the superhero vs contractor thing because it gives a direct comparison which is essentially what we are doing. The customer is basically in the position to choose the cheapest option because many of these home owners just want to get the cheapest new roof. They don't care if it lasts 50 years, because they don't think they will live there that long. What they don't get is they are paying to do the roof twice because the next home buyer, is going to say the roof looks old or might need to be replaced. An inspector will say that the roof could maybe be needing to be done. Done our way, the cedar will be like a bomb shelter in 15 year still. Which is going to allow them to sell the home with the roof as is. Just like 99designs, you get what you pay for, I could go to fiverr and pay $65 to get a design but with 99 designs I pay 10x more but should only have to do this once and get the best results. http://www.roofthings.com/assets/images/blogImages/green-roofs-infographic.jpg like how simple this looks. The idea is when people read this info graphic they need to know that the way their roof has been installed has been done that way because its the minimum for building code, but not for home value. They have a cosmetic cedar roof, that won't last as long as the much more affordable asphalt roof because they were installed for as cheap as possible to build the neighbourhood leaving the home owners to deal with replacing their roofs in 17 years instead of 30 years. http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Bo811xx8LJM/UqXvTrOSCCI/AAAAAAAAA2w/4LCjJw5DAV8/ice-dam-infographic_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800 very good explanation of an ice dam... #1 **** MOST IMPORTANT***** This video on youtube... is probably the BEST WAY to explain in... if customers could visualize the facts of this video in under 1 minute of reading or looking at an info graphic... they would understand... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpqKimbYumE ****** 10 minute video could easily help you win this contest.
