I am a SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) survivor and am creating a light-hearted, blog-based resource for SIBO patients worldwide. "Suck it SIBO!" will be at SuckItSIBO.com.
Current research says that 80%+ of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients actually have SIBO. Still, the disorder (where colonic bacteria migrates into the usually-sterile small intestine), very little is known by most mainstream doctors. As a result, patients are desperate for resources, including efforts from naturopathic doctors as well as other patients who have survived it.
My blog topics will be around healing and spirituality, since most patients suffer from incredible anxiety. Early on (pre-diagnosis), the body often goes into free-fall and the patient often feels like s/he is dying. Weight loss is steep (I lost 47 pounds in two months and I started as a fit person.)
Once diagnosed (which can take years before finding the right doctor), the patient has a very deep hole to climb out of, and some are so far gone that SIBO turns into an autoimmune disease (e.g., MS, ALS, parkinson's, rheumatoid arthritis, Chron's disease).
My goal is to create a fun, semi-irreverant place for patients to let their hair down, find encouragement, maybe laugh a bit -- all while getting helpful resources from a patient perspective. Not an expert's perspective.
I don't envision making money, this is entirely a passion project. As such, I can go a bit wilder than if this was a professional presence on the web.
