Access Neurology provides multidisciplinary specialist teleneurology care to people in regions of need around regional NSW, Australia. Access Neurologists will partner with the patient’s local GPs to host conference consultation on a telehealth platform. The telehealth care model is supported by frequent local outreach clinics serviced by the same neurologists for the provision of face-to-face consultation to improve doctor-patient rapport and maintain the accuracy of patient plans. In essence, the product is coordinated telehealth care supported by face-to-face outreach specialist clinics.
Currently, people who live in regional towns that need specialist care are significantly disadvantaged because of the significant lack of specialists locally. This results in:
i. Significant delays in waiting lists with the few doctors available
ii. Absence of patient choice for doctors
iii. Poor coordination and continuity of care due to geographical barriers
iv. Significant time, travel and accommodation costs associated with travelling to see the specialist
‘Multidisciplinary telehealth conference consultation’ will be a world first with anticipated benefits of:
i. Significantly reduced delays in patient assessment and the provision of coordinated patient health outcomes.
ii. Empowering patients’s owernship of their own health outcomes by involving them in the conference.
iii. Holistic, coordinated care of patients by GP-specialist partnership.
iv. Multidisciplinary care plans custom built around patient outcomes that defies geography.
v. Improved communication, coordination and continuity of care between medical practitioners focused on individual patient outcomes.
vi. Reduced costs of travelling to see a specialist.
There are two targets:
i. Rural-regional town general practitioners who would like to partner with the Access’ Neurologists.
ii. Rural-regional patients who would like to access the organisation’s services.
