Karatekai Basel is a Swiss Shotokan Karate Club based in Basel. It was founded 1972 and is member of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) and Swiss Karatedo Renmei (SKR). Karatekai Basel is currently working on a redesign of its website www.karatekai-basel.ch and its logo. The new logo shall again contain a visual abstraction of the Karate jump technique called Yoko-Tobi Geri that was initially performed from the founder of our club (Sensei Koichi Sugimura) and was present on all our logos so far. See attached images. The Logo shall be in black & white enriched with red elements representing the Japan or Swiss flag red. The Shotokan Karate Symbol is a Tiger of which an image also is attached and vector files can be found on the internet. Eventually some silver and gold also may be used. It shall work on white backgrounds as well as vice versa on dark backgrounds. The logo must work as a new Wordpress Website logo, must be usable for online social media profiles as well as a printed logo on paper or on bright and dark textile fabrics. The logo must be scalable in vector graphics. The used font(s) must be available for free or explained what the limitations for usage in corporate communication are. (CI/CD) Additional note for the final round: For the final round we seek a modular logo that balances tradition and modern abstraction. For a web FavIcon we seek a simplified logo with the modular core element of our club's mascot with the “Yoko Tobi Geri” and without Text. For Social Media Profile Images and for our Wordpress Website a logo where the club name “KARATEKAI BASEL” can be added beside the Logo. And for our prints on paper or textile we’d like to have a full logo with all elements, Text and Kanji embedded. The artistic focus shall be on a unique abstraction of the logos core element, our club mascot “Yoko Tobi Geri”. To keep the design language simple, modern and abstract, the Shotokan Tiger as well as the Japan and Swiss Flags should not be too dominant and optional addable elements. Small hint for the non Kanji litartes: Kanji letters can also be written from top down instead left to right ;-) It’s important that the design also works in black and white on dark and bright backgrounds (monochrome).

This are the fonts we currently use in some other logos: KARATEKAI & BASEL (Teko Medium 500 Google Fonts), 空手道 Kanji (osaka_unicode Regular) We are open to other similar free fonts. If you propose restricted fonts, pl. explain what the limitations are for corporate communication use in CI/CD.
