The client didn't specify much what they want so I decided to research the book.
After watching the author's short film associated with the book, I decided to capture the obsession with art where gore and eroticism overlap the film has showcased.
That's why I combined multiple famous paintings with magic scribbles and blood to convey the art the character/author was seeing.
I also found the English title text way too iconic to re-do since it was used in the film, the first cover and even the most recent English re-release, so I decided to keep it in as it is.")

So I rendered this in more of retro-ish style reminiscent of some horror covers and posters to balance the childish sight in a way more fitting to the genre and intended audience instilling a sense of discomfort by intense black and white on intense yellow BG.")

It was evident that author is interested in retro-futurism and similar aesthetics like Cyberpunk and Vaporwave as she mentioned things like Muse's \"Simulation Theory\" album cover and Stranger Things poster—so built my design with this aesthetic in mind.")

The story is about twin sisters who have been gifted with supernatural powers and need to protect their town from goblins and vicious gangs. However, she asked for one silhouette so decided to give it more fading effect.
Set in a dark colors illumined by not by some color but flames (the only logical fire source in war, right?).
All elements are joining together to point to and frame the title taking its place in the middle in a very \"fatansy-esque\" font.")

B. Also, I went for more of a retro-ish look for 2 reasons:
・To stand out among the many similarly-modern takes on horror posters.
After all, streaming services consumers flip through hundreds of posters to choose what to watch so something a bit different would more eye-catchy
・The other reason and the most important one: current horror fans seem to be fascinated in retro-style regardless of the media:
—Like in novels such as Grady Hendrix's My Best Friend's Exorcism by
—or Indie horror games which try to replicate VHS look
—Or how analogue horror is getting popular
And movies and shows are catching on to this like with
2021's Malignant or Stranger Things.
That's why a retro-style poster should be the best option for among horror fans in this period. (Especially since Cabin in Woods is such a classic horror trope)")

A storytelling lover, who decided to make covers for one of the things he loves the most—books.
That's exactly why I prefer telling stories through my covers.
I have a soft spot for unique and absurd styles, and I usually prefer simple covers (at least, till I don't).
