To emphasize this even furthermore, I made it like it's disintegrating.
Using greenish yellow color as background considering it's almost the universal color for fear (+ the huge eye of the rabbit adds more to the uneasiness) coupled with a gradient of darker brown mixed with orange for the humanoid being signifying both the loss of control eating away at the victims as well as the possible anger upon recognizing something we consider as our own is not in our own control.
I also took into account your publisher's iconic spine which takes part of the front and back cover in mind and the mockup as well.")

I incorporated elements of that era like warped text with bevel.

However, I wanted to include fiction readers somehow without going for movie-like visuals so I opt for something in between \"The Guns of August\" (one of the covers provided) silhouettes' visuals and the dramatic nature of fiction.")

That's exactly why I prefer telling stories through my covers.
I have a soft spot for unique and absurd styles, and I usually prefer simple covers (at least, till I don't).
